Officer Safety Unit
This unit is a “behind the scenes” part of our police service, but maintains an integral role. S/Sgt. Rick Marcinkowski oversees this unit that provides the training for control tactics and firearms. It is also under this unit that several officers comprise the Public Safety Unit, which is trained by the Edmonton Police Service. Many provincial standards and accreditation standards dictate when and how an officer affects an arrest. While verbal direction works for most, physical force is necessary for others. Officers must be thoroughly trained for anything and everything they may encounter. They also undergo annual certification to ensure their training is current. It is our Officer Safety Unit that ensures all of our officers are highly trained and accountable to our community.
