Police Service Dog Unit
While the Camrose Police Service has had four police service dogs over the years, 2009 marks the beginning of a new dog program. Cst. Matt Rolfe was selected to take on the very demanding role as the services’ new dog handler. In September 2008, he took possession of Mishka, a purebred German Shepherd. Cst. Rolfe completed an intense four-month training course with the Calgary Police Service K9 Unit and in the fall of 2009 they were certified. Cst. Rolfe and Police Service Dog Mishka will assist investigations in a number of areas and will also enhance community relations by holding demonstrations at schools and other venues in the city.
